Dr. Brian Mueller has been president of Grand Canyon University since 2008, overseeing the transformation of a financially struggling institution to one that is a driving force in higher education today.
Since joining GCU, Dr. Mueller has led a reinvention of the school’s academic programs to align with high-growth fields such as computer science, information technology and engineering; he has helped develop operational efficiencies and fiscal responsibility that have enabled the university to freeze tuition on its Phoenix campus for 16 straight years, ensuring that high-quality, private Christian education is affordable to all socioeconomic classes; and he has led efforts to revitalize west Phoenix through a series of public-private partnerships and initiatives that have had significant impacts on the community.
Enrollment on the Phoenix campus has jumped from less than 1,000 when Mueller arrived in 2008 to more than 25,000 today, while online enrollment has surpassed 90,000. Mueller has also overseen a $2 billion expansion of the campus through new technologies, classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities and student amenities.
Dr. Mueller’s vision for Christian education draws from his own experiences as a student, teacher and coach in Christian schools. His passion is also seen in his inspiring Chapel service addresses, which draw standing-room only crowds at GCU’s Global Credit Union Arena.
